The Dream of Living
In a world of increased speed, it can feel difficult to slow down sometimes. So, I call in Tortoise to help me do so. He inches across the terrain of my mind. His feet etch a poem in the sand.
Oh wondrous traveler
Set down your burdens
Carry only a satchel
That fits on your back
To retreat into
When the path seems long
Letting go appears to be the solution when acquiring too much. It is easy to gather stuff, but what is it that you actually need? Take the breath for example. It lives inside us, yet so easy to take for granted. Nothing to force. It exists already as it is, for without breath none of us would be here.
Everyone wants to work harder but what if working less hard is the solution? Allowing rather than forcing. Being rather than doing. Trusting that everything is unfolding perfectly even when it feels like you're swimming blindly through the stars and when you get closer, rocks greet you.
What is it you're searching for?
Like a record skipping, or a groove sticking, immobility may besiege you at times, but look deeper within the immovable parts and you’ll discover a resonance harmonizing with life itself. What song do plants sing? If your table could speak, what would it say?
“Acts of kindness go a long way.”
We often define this as being kind to others, but what about yourself? Can you love yourself even when you don’t feel like it? Can you choose to follow your dreams, even when it seems like they’ve flown away to a distant galaxy? Can you redefine what it is you want as a radical act of self-kindness?
We’re all here just once in the forms we now occupy. Take a moment and appreciate five things about yourself that makes you uniquely you. That’s enough. Do it every day and it may begin to transform you in more ways than you can immediately imagine. Once you do it for yourself, you can begin to do it for those around you. Gratitude goes such a long way, like a helium balloon you’ve let go of. Watch it fly over rooftops.
We sometimes think of energy as being something obscure but what if it’s as simple as the thoughts we think, the air we breathe, the intentions we feel. A battery uses energy, a lightbulb uses energy, we use energy. Whether it’s running, typing, thinking, listening, singing. The list goes on forever. We also consume energy. Food is one type of consumption, but we also consume content and stimulus from our environment. Sometimes we’re in low battery mode, when all we want to do is rest and this is conservation at its best.
When we learn to channel energy, we’re merely using what’s already there, we’re just rewiring our brains to use skills to maximize who we are as human beings. To be human is such a gift; a collective dream.
Skeletal structures appear and ask for heart. Can you infuse what you love into everything you do?
